It was a privilege to be able to gather in these Covid times with other professionals at Green Pavlova Conference 2021 hosted by Recreation Aotearoa in Rotorua in May. A strand out innovation at Green Pavlova 2021 for me was SpaceToCo, the Airbnb for community facilities including sport clubrooms. SpaceToCo is a potential game changer in driving greater use of spare capacity in our clubrooms and community halls where there is no budget for marketing. This tool has big potential to get our assets with traditionally low occupancy to be more economically sustainable and return greater community value. AirBnB has added economic value to residential property (previously a passive asset) by enabling NZ to host way more tourists in pre-Covid times than we could have with just conventional commercial accommodation.
SpaceToCo does take a % of each dollar similar to AirBnB but it is better to have more income and more use through this service than being invisible or difficult for potential hirers to connect and book. SpaceToCo also automates most of the administration tasks freeing up valuable volunteer or staff time for other tasks. The analytics and performance reports available in the software are awesome too.
